A Water Canal Rejuvinated To Support Irrigation Of Barren Fields

A Nullah(Water Canal) that flows from the foot of hillocks adjecent to the village sagroli to the neighboring village, Bolegaon was once upon a time served as the life line of the farmers of Sagroli.  But in the past few years, it has been  cluttered with silt  and waste deposits in the flow way resulting drastic reduction in water percolation. During monsoon, the water flows out unutilized. In a measure to support the water conservation, the SSM together with the Caring Friends (An NRI-NGO), undertook  the task of de-silting and widening the nullah . The work commenced on 24th February in presence of the Sub Divisional Officer, Biloli.
The task includes widening the flow way by 20 feet and deepening by 10 feet, all through. At every five hundred meters, a pool of fifty meters area would be dug up  to store about 7 lakhs liters of water. A consolidated storage capacity is estimated to be 70 lakh litres.  Thus it would help to raise the ground water. Approximately an area of one thousand acres is expected to be irrigated benefitting a hundred farmers.  Similar kind of initiative is also undertaken by SSM at Kandhar and Naigaon divisions in the district.
